Entering
Entries for 25 April 2027 opened in May 2026 in phases, with 2026 runners first, then the 2026 waiting list, then the public from 14 May. They run until the places are gone, and a waiting list opens after that. The organiser plans 47,000 places across both distances

The Madrid Marathon runs through the middle of the city. It starts on the Paseo de la Castellana, passes the Puerta de Alcalá, the Retiro park, the Gran Vía and the Royal Palace, and finishes on the Paseo de Recoletos between Cibeles and Colón. It isn't flat. The city sits at about 650 m above sea level and the course rolls, with independent counts of the climb running from about 200 m to about 400 m. Nearly 20 live bands play along the way, and the race holds a World Athletics Gold Label.

The organiser reports 47,000 participants across all distances. The marathon is on Sunday 25 April 2027, with a half marathon and a 10K on the same morning.

The organiser gives no climb figure and the independent counts disagree, so treat the course as rolling and run the first hour a little easier than your goal pace.

Getting to Madrid

Barajas airport is 12 km north-east of the centre, and the metro is the quickest way in. Line 8 runs from Terminal 4 through Terminal 2 to Nuevos Ministerios, in under 20 minutes from T4 and 12 minutes from the other terminals. The tourist board says an airport supplement of €3 applies on top of the ticket when you enter or leave an airport station.

The Airport Express bus is the alternative, route 203, which takes about 40 minutes. It leaves Atocha station from 6:00 to 23:30 and Plaza de Cibeles through the night, every 15 minutes in the day, and costs €5.10 on board by card or cash. A taxi inside the Calle 30 ring road is a fixed €33.

Nuevos Ministerios is on the Castellana itself, 1.1 km from the start line at Gregorio Marañón, which is a 14-minute walk. The Cercanías C-1 train links Chamartín station to T4 every 20 minutes if you arrive by long-distance rail.

Where to stay in Madrid

The race has two ends on one avenue. The start is on the Castellana at Gregorio Marañón, and the finish at Recoletos is 2.3 km south of it, about a 30-minute walk. Bag check is at the finish end, while the metro stops for the start are further north. Decide which you want to be near at 7:00.

A bed in Chamberí and Almagro leaves you walking to the bag check on the way home. A bed in Sol or Atocha puts you within a short walk of the finish, with a metro ride to the start at the cost of an early alarm.

Collecting your number

Numbers are handed out at IFEMA, Feria de Madrid, on Friday 23 and Saturday 24 April 2027 from 10:00 to 20:00. Bibs are never given out on race day. The organiser puts the average time to collect your number, the official shirt and the runner's bag at 15 minutes, which will be longer on a busy Saturday afternoon.

Bring your registration confirmation or the pick-up QR code and photo ID, printed or on a phone. Someone else can collect for you with your documents.

Race morning

The bag check is on the Castellana in the finish zone, between Hermosilla and Ortega y Gasset, and opens at 7:00. It closes at 17:00 for the marathon and at 14:00 for the half. Chemical toilets stand at the start, the finish and every drinks station.

Metro is the way to the start, because the roads around it are closed and there is no parking near the finish. The organiser points runners to Gregorio Marañón (lines 7 and 10) and Rubén Darío (line 5). The tourist board lists the first marathon wave at 8:45. The organiser's own start times for 2027 are not yet out, so work backwards from your own wave once they are.

The tourist board lists the Bernabéu stadium, the Cuatro Torres business area, Puerta del Sol, the Royal Palace, Casa de Campo, Madrid Río and the Prado. An independent guide adds Cibeles, the Puerta de Alcalá, the Retiro and the Gran Vía, which it calls the stretch with the loudest crowds.

The organiser publishes GPX files and course maps for every distance but gives no climb figure, so the sources disagree. One independent running guide counts about 200 m of climb across the 42 km. Another race-travel site counts around 400 m, with the start at 700 m above sea level and the finish at 628 m. The running guide also warns that the hills cost far more energy if you ran the opening kilometres too hard.

There is an extra gel stop at 30 km in the organiser's runner-bag information, and about 30 entertainment points on the way. The organiser's PDF maps show the drinks stations, and 2027's are not yet posted.

Weather in Madrid in April

Madrid is high and dry, and the mornings are cool before the sun gets over the buildings. These are the last five race days at Plaza de Cibeles, at 9:00 and at 13:00. The first wave starts at 8:45, so the 9:00 column is where you will be.

27 April 20258.4 °C17.3 °C7 km/h
26 April 202614.9 °C23.1 °C7 km/h

In 2026 Madrid warmed by more than 8 °C between 9:00 and 13:00. Runners finishing around lunchtime spent the last part of the race in warmer conditions.

Afterwards

Your bag is waiting in the finish zone until 17:00. The Airport Express runs from Atocha and Cibeles, the second of which is next to the finish line, and the metro to the airport runs from Nuevos Ministerios.
